We Are NBO is a handmade jewelry brand based in Nairobi, Kenya. We work with talented artisans from marginalized backgrounds to create contemporary, covetable jewelry using recycled and upcycled materials. Our pieces are a dialogue between the artisan and our designer, Michael Nguthu, who has leveraged his experience working for international brands to create organic, felt jewelry pieces that tell a story of joy, resilience, community, and ingenuity.

We Are NBO is committed to working with talented artisans from marginalized backgrounds. We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to earn a fair wage and to support themselves and their families. Our artisans are the heart and soul of our brand, and we are proud to support their work.

We use mostly recycled and upcycled materials in our jewelry. This includes recycled brass, wood, and bone. We also use 24k gold plating to give our pieces a luxurious finish. Our materials are salvaged from the waste stream, which helps to reduce our environmental impact.

Our designer, Michael Nguthu, has a deep appreciation for Kenyan culture and heritage. He uses his experience working for international brands to create jewelry that is both contemporary and traditional. Michael's designs are inspired by the natural world, and they often feature organic shapes and patterns.
